The group “Aziz“ comes originally from Agadir, a coast region of Morocco and entertains the spectators of Jemaa El Fna with traditional Berber-music. They’ve been part of the Halqa “Hassan with the rooster“ but decided co create a new one. The lyrics of their songs are devoted to the landscapes and interpersonal encounters.
These topics are connected to the history of their culture. The Berber regions have been animal farming and agriculture oriented for centuries with no development to city-like structures. In conclusions subjects like the county life and the relationship towards nature play a main role in their lyrics.
The Berber music has a rhythm-stressed, cyclical orientation with a partially trance-like character and improvisational parts. Different instruments are used, like a „Rebab“- a simple round resonating body with mostly two or three strings - and a banjo. For the rhythms the drummers of group “Aziz“ use various objects like brake discs or glas bottles.
